The University of West Georgia, based on guidance from the USG now and in the future, plans to open its campus for all employees and students for the Spring 2021 term. The information listed in UWG’s Return to Work Plan describes UWG’s method for bringing everyone back to campus in a safe and responsible manner. Below, University Recreation has specifically outlined a detailed plan for maintaining patrons' safety throughout all facility operations and program offerings.

What Should I Know Before Visiting the Campus Center?

UREC is dedicated to ensuring that our patrons can safely utilize all services and thus are asking for all patrons to adhere to the following operating procedures.

Campus Center Hours of Operation

The Campus Center hours of operation have been modified for additional disinfecting and cleaning procedures to be implemented including midday closures from 1:30 - 2:00 p.m. on the weekdays. For full holiday and special hours throughout the fall semester, visit the UREC Hours of Operation webpage.

  • Monday - Thursday: 6:30 a.m. - 11:00 p.m. (workout spaces closed 1:30 - 2:00 p.m. for additional cleaning procedures)
  • Friday: 6:30 a.m. - 8:30 p.m. (workout spaces closed 1:30 - 2:00 p.m. for additional cleaning procedures)
  • Saturday: 10:30 a.m. - 6:30 p.m.
  • Sunday: 2:30 p.m. - 11:00 p.m.

Patron Responsibilities

  • Monitor your symptoms. Please refrain from entering if you have been diagnosed with COVID-19 within the past month; currently have, or had within the past two weeks, symptoms of COVID-19; or had contact with a person that has or is suspected to have had COVID-19 within the past 14 days
  • Make a plan. Keep your workouts efficient to limit your daily visits to the Campus Center as much as possible. Minimize cell phone usage while seated on a machine.
Keep track of the equipment that you touch. Wipe down all of your equipment with disinfectant wipes before and after each use. Disinfectant wipe dispensers are located around the workout areas. A dedicated staff member will monitor overall sanitation and can provide assistance
  • Skip the locker rooms when possible. Please come dressed in proper fitness attire when you come to avoid having to change when possible
  • Bring a water bottle with you.  Water bottle stations will still be available for refills but should be limited as much as possible
  • Keep your distance. Maintain 6 feet of physical distancing throughout the building, especially in the locker rooms. There will be floor markings in select areas to assist with awareness
  • Clean your hands. There are several hand sanitizing stations throughout the facility, please use them often
  • No congregating. You can use a spotter for safety, but no groups larger than two people

Mask Wearing

Effective July 15, 2020, USG institutions will require all faculty, staff, students, and visitors to wear an appropriate face covering while inside campus facilities/buildings where six feet of social distancing may not always be possible. Face covering use will be in addition to, and is not a substitute for, social distancing.

Face coverings are not required in one’s own residence hall room or suite, when alone in an enclosed office or study room, or in campus outdoor settings where social distancing requirements are met.

Anyone not using a face covering when required will be asked to wear one or must leave the area. Repeated refusal to comply with the requirement may result in discipline through the applicable conduct code for faculty, staff, or students.

Reasonable accommodations may be made for those who are unable to wear a face covering for documented health reasons.

Things to Consider When Exercising With a Mask

  • Consider masks that are breathable, comfortable, moisture-wicking with multi-layer microbial fibers for working outIf you are new to exercising or haven't exercised in a long time, pay extra attention to your breathing and recovery.
  • Give your body extra time to adapt to change in the flow of oxygen when working out with a maskIf you do feel lightheaded, dizzy, or extremely short of breath when working out with a mask, you should sit down, notify staff, and take a break.
  • Consult with your doctor before working out with a mask if you have any underlying issues

General Cleaning Procedures

  • Staff regularly cleans the fitness floor in zones throughout the day so all equipment/spaces are cleaned consistently
  • Staff will disinfect all high-touch surfaces and seating spaces approximately every 2 hours
