Brent started at the University in the fall of 2017. He primarily teaches science education courses and works with graduate students transitioning into teaching through the MAT program and undergraduate UTeach candidates. His research interests lie primarily within scientific argumentation and how preservice teachers use discourse while constructing arguments. He is also interested in researching scientific practices and how they contribute to students using observations to construct scientific explanations. He also has a passion for working with inservice teachers. His current project includes a partnership with the Carrollton City Schools working with K-12 teachers in designing environmental education curriculum that engage students in the engineering and scientific practices. In his spare time Brent enjoys biking, hiking, disc golfing, and exploring Georgia with his wife.
