Larry Stephens was born and reared in Marietta, Georgia, where he grew up in close proximity to the Kennesaw Mountain Civil War Battlefield.  As a boy he developed an early interest in the U.S. Civil War which gradually evolved into a broader love of American History.  A former librarian, high school teacher, and Civil War author, he considers himself to be fortunate to have landed a position with the University of West Georgia as a part-time adjunct instructor.  "I would have pursued the M.A. a long time ago," he explains. "But for the longest time there were no jobs out there . . . not even for part-timers."  Returning to higher academia very late in life, he has not regretted his decision to pursue and earn the M.A. in History.
