Welcome to the College of Education. We are committed to developing effective undergraduate and graduate candidates for a variety of professional settings, to fostering an innovative learning community, and to empowering faculty committed to teaching and life-long learning who will prepare our students to affect positive change in children and in schools.

Currently, education is experiencing considerable public scrutiny and facing overwhelming challenges. Previous systems and traditional pathways are being re-addressed and re-thought to determine their efficacy to meet present and future needs of our children and in our society as a whole. New educators who believe all children can learn, regardless of cultural and ethnic background, gender, linguistic diversity, socioeconomic status, or ability must be ready to enter classrooms. All educators must prepare students for a world that has become significantly more economically and socially global, especially in Georgia. New educators and their students must develop the skills necessary to access and manipulate emerging technologies that are changing homes, communities, workplaces, and schools. Moreover, new and veteran educators must continue to learn and to grow so that they can provide leadership and direction for positive, systemic change for the culture of schooling.

Offering bachelor's, master's, educational specialist, and doctorate level degree programs, as well as post-bachelor's, certification, and alternative preparation opportunities, the College of Education provides the West Georgia region with hundreds of professionals each year. Drawing on a rich tradition that dates from 1957, the College of Education, led by dedicated and energetic faculty, has assumed a leadership role by responding to changing demands, new challenges, and increased responsibilities within the University System of Georgia. Without a doubt, education is the medium through which we can strengthen our society. It is our foundation - solid, but flexible and reflective. To the extent that it maintains excellence, retains multiple traditions that function, and innovates when reasonable external circumstances demand, education enables us to flourish as a community, state, and nation.

Come study to become an educator at the University of West Georgia. Come be part of the solution.
