The Department of Media and Instructional Technology would like to welcome you to our web page to familiarize you with our programs, faculty, and important student information. We are highly committed to the training and development of successful school library media specialists and instructional technology leaders who will make positive changes in our schools and other educational environments.
Our faculty is diverse and comes from a variety of educational institutions across the United States. They have higher level degrees in Instructional Systems, Educational Computing, Instructional Technology, and Curriculum and Instruction. The faculty is very student-centered and goes the extra mile for students to ensure their unique educational needs are met. Over the past ten years, faculty has been well published in refereed journals and has made numerous presentations from local to international levels in their areas of expertise to enhance the teaching and learning process in media and instructional technology, especially in our own region. They also have served as leaders in numerous organizations and agencies in and out of state to advance our field. Within the state, the department is known and highly respected for its leadership in producing quality media specialists. At the regional and national levels, the department has an excellent reputation for its contribution to the research in online learning.
All of our programs in the department are well planned and delivered predominantly online using a variety of new and emerging technologies such as WebCT Vista, Camtasia, pod casting, blogging, impaticized PowerPoint presentations, photoblogging, and instructional video to meet the educational needs of our students. Program evaluation data are carefully reviewed each year by the department to keep our programs current by reviewing program strengths and weaknesses and then making timely revisions as needed. At the present time, our Ed.S. programs in School Library Media/Instructional Technology and our Add On program in School Library Media degree are online with a few face-to-face meetings. These have been well received, and enrollments have been rapidly growing as a result. Our M.Ed. program in School Library Media is online except for one non-media class, Psychology in the Classroom. The Media M.Ed. program is accredited by both NCATE and SACS. The M.Ed. program in Instructional Technology is also online except for the one non media class. It is not a certification program.
We hope the information contained on our web pages will help answer your questions on our department and programs you are interested in. If you need additional information, please feel free to contact the department. We will be happy to answer any questions you may have.
