The MIT Department utilizes a variety of assessment instruments to systematically evaluate course content, faculty, and the overall program delivery.
Advising
Advising questionnaires are given to students after their first appointment to determine the quality of advisement and program planning. A second questionnaire is given to students to complete after advising during the program when face to face meetings take place.
Program Orientation for New Students
All
new students are required to attend a “New Student Orientation”
before starting their program of study. At the end of the session
students complete an online questionnaire to provide feedback on
the effectiveness of the program and improvements that need
to be
made.
Faculty Evaluation
At the end of every class faculty are evaluated by two university instruments to evaluate the effectiveness of the class and online technologies. This includes the University Course Evaluation Instrument and the Distance Learning Instrument from the Distance and Distributed Education Office.

Supervision Evaluation
The school and university supervisors of students completing their practicum in the field are evaluated at the end of the practicum. Two different instruments are utilized.
Program Evaluation
Formative and summative evaluations are in place to evaluate the effectiveness of the programs. The midpoint graduate survey is completed by students online during their program of study to collect information on the effectiveness of the program and to identify areas where improvements are needed. Two summative evaluations are administered at the end of the student’s program: (1) an online student completer survey and (2) a programs outcomes survey. The completer survey is administered when the student has completed the program while the program outcomes survey is given at the end of the student’s oral exit exam.
