The University of West Georgia Speech, Language and Hearing Clinic announces its initiative to become a community-based clinic effective Fall Semester, 2007. The goal of the clinic is to enhance the clinical experiences of the graduate students it serves, while providing affordable speech, language, and hearing services to the surrounding West Georgia community. Future plans for the clinic include adding services in the areas of counseling, reading, and special education.
The following is a list of anticipated projects:
- Offer full three hour diagnostic evaluations to the community
- Offer community pre-kindergarten screenings
- Develop a children’s Autism group
- Develop an Alzheimer’s group
- Include students (both undergraduates and graduates) in research with assistance
- Seek internal and external grant support Present with students at state, local, and national levels
The desire to increase collaborative efforts with other disciplines has necessitated a need to change the clinic name into one that truly represents the variety of services that will be made available to the public. Consequently, faculty members in these departments have engaged students in a contest to give the clinic a new name. Again, with the support of Dean Layton, the student whose idea is chosen will receive a reward.
Look for an announcement of this new phase during an official ceremony!
