Educational Facilities and Services on Campus
The Ingram Library is a four-story-structure that provides more than 85,000 square feet of usable research/storage areas and over 1,000 seating spaces for students and faculty. The Library presently contains seminar and conference rooms, hundreds of individual study carrels, a room for microform reading and copying, the Annie Belle Weaver Special Collections Room, large areas for reference, periodical materials, maps, and the circulating book collection. A computer laboratory maintained and supervised by computer staff, typewriters, video cassette players, and photocopiers are also available to assist students and faculty with their study and research needs.
The Ingram Library presently houses approximately 301,000 bound volumes, 21,261 reels of microfilms, more than 871,000 pieces of microform, 19,262 maps and charts, and 24,488 volumes/pieces of special collection material. The Library subscribes to over 1,461 magazines and newspapers.
The Library's Unicorn Collection Management System provides automated services for its patrons. Acquisitions, cataloging, circulation, reserves, government documents, serials, and special collections are available through the Unicorn on-line public access catalog (OPAC). Interlibrary loan requests can be made by mail or through electronic mail. Internet links are available through Unicorn and through a local area network (LAN). The library LAN provides multiple access to bibliographic and full-text databases. The OPAC also contains an electronic suggestion board. The College's Newnan and Dalton Centers have full access to Ingram Library's Unicorn OPAC.
Through the OPAC, patrons can access the University System of Georgia's PEACHNET on-line database. Students and faculty can be issued joint Borrowers' Cards allowing them circulation privileges at the other thirty-three University System of Georgia Libraries. Subscription to Dialog Information Research Services, LEXIS/NEXUS, CARL Uncover, OCLC Firstsearch and a variety of CD-ROM databases afford the State University of West Georgia community extended entree into local, state, regional, and international library collections.

The LRC is housed on the lower level of the Geography Building. It is responsible for providing faculty, students, and staff with appropriate equipment and assistance in the production of visual aids. The LRC provides equipment and visual aids for instruction in classrooms. Its equipment holdings include audio cassette players, overhead projectors, record players, videotape players/recorders, tripods for cameras and camcorders, opaque projectors, LCD panels, and 35 mm cameras. Services include digital scanning of photos and graphics, printing color overheads, output of computer images to color slides, black and white film and Ektachrome slide developing, lamination and copier transparencies.
Information Technology Services
Information Technology Services, located in the Math/Physics building, provides information technology leadership and support to all areas of the University community. It offers a wide variety of services - from user assistance and training to planning and maintaining the campus wide fiber optice network. Providing this range of service makes its role a very challenging one. To successfully meet that challenge, the Center is continually upgrading services and equipment. This year, many of the computer lab service facilities were upgraded to include the latest in PC and Macintosh technology; and a new e-mail server was purchases which will allow the university to provide e-mail accounts to all students and faculty/staff. ITS has implemented a new student information system which allows it to better serve the needs of students and alumni.
UWG is an accredited institution with specific requirements for degree seeking students. Students enrolling in distance learning courses must first be admitted through the admissions office (undergraduates) or through the graduate school (graduate students). To apply on-line, simply go to: http://www.westga.edu. After being admitted, students should call/contact the registrar's office by phone (or in person) to register. Before calling, students should refer to the Quarterly Bulletin to obtain the CRN number for the appropriate section. You may also refer to the Quarterly Bulletin for information regarding drop/add dates and registration fees. To obtain a quarterly bulletin by mail, call the registrar's office at (770) 836-6438. It is important that students register for distance classes during early registration whenever possible.
