ADMISSION REQUIREMENTS:
Because of the advanced nature of the Specialist degree, some of the requirements for admission to the Ed.S. program are more stringent than those for the Master in Education (M.Ed.) degree in School Administration. There are four components in the standard admission requirements process.
- Master of Education (or L-5 Certificate) in School Administration:
The applicant must hold one of the following graduate degree options:
- A masters-level degree in school administration from an accredited college or university; or
- A masters-level education degree from an accredited college or university in an area other than school administration and a Leadership (L-5) Certificate.
- Grade Point Average (GPA):
The applicant must have earned a minimum 3.0 graduate grade point average for all work attempted in which letter grades were awarded.
- Graduate Record Examination (GRE) scores:
The applicant must have a minimum GRE score of 900 with at least 450 on the verbal portion and at least 450 on either the quantitative portion or analytical portion.
- Recommendations for advanced study:
The applicant must have recommendations from three school administrators and/or supervisors who know the applicant and the quality of the applicant's work. Applicants should refrain from requesting recommendations from present or former university professors. The applicant is responsible for securing copies of the approved recommendation form and for requesting the recommendations. Copies of the recommendation form can be downloaded by clicking this form.
Assignment and meeting with advisor
Upon being accepted for admission, students receive a letter from the department. This letter informs the student of their advisor and contact information. It is advised that students will contact their appointed advisor as quickly as possible.
Transient
Any student who is enrolled currently in any accredited institution can apply for transient status and with department approval may register for classes.
