Academic Standards

Graduate students enrolled in degree programs must meet the following standards:

  1. Maintain an overall GPA of 3.0 or higher for all courses.
  2. If a student earns two C’s or one F, his/her record will be reviewed by the Graduate Dean and Department Chair. A decision will be made to determine if the student may remain in the program. Students dismissed for academic reasons who wish to appeal a decision should contact the Dean of the Graduate School.

Academic Honor

Students are expected to achieve and maintain the highest standards of academic honesty and excellence. The West Georgia student pledges not to lie, cheat, or steal in the pursuit of his or her studies and is encouraged to report those who do.

Time Limit to Complete Programs

In any graduate program, all work must be completed within a seven-year period. It is expected that the student will complete the program with reasonable continuity. The seven-year period begins at the date of the first course taken towards the degree. Students called into military services may apply for an extension of time.

Transfer, Extension, and Correspondence Credit

A maximum of 6 semester hours of graduate credit may be transferred from another accredited insitution subject to the following conditions:

  1. Work already applied toward another degree cannot be accepted;
  2. Work must have been completed within the seven-year period allowed for the completion of degree requirements;
  3. Work must have been applicable toward a graduate degree at the institution where the credit was earned;
  4. Work offered for transfer must have the approval of the Dean of the Graduate School and the chair of the department of the student’s major;
  5. Acceptance of the transfer credit does not reduce the residency requirement. See the UWG Graduate Catalog for more details about residency requirements.
