Welcome to the Department of Curriculum and Instruction's home web page. This department reflects the merger of the Department of Early Childhood, Elementary, and Reading Education and the Department of Middle Grades and Secondary Education. Programs at both the undergraduate and graduate levels have been designed and implemented with the goal of developing the most effective teachers in public education. The scope of our teacher preparation programs is from Pre-Kindergarten (four-year olds) through fifth grade, middle grades (4-8), secondary grades (7-12), and prekindergarten through twelfth (P-12) grades. We also offer an endorsement program in the teaching of English to speakers of other languages (ESOL) and reading. In addition, we offer the Georgia Responds Program, an innovative program to provide students an alternative route to seeking initial certification. Also, we offer initial certification programs at the secondary level.

In order to insure the most effective development of our students, we integrate the most reliable and valid educational philosophies and pedagogical theories of education. Our professional education courses are taught by experienced educators and are integrated with field experiences in public schools. The faculty is composed of professors who are distinguished in their fields of study and are active professionals at state, regional, and national levels. Our programs are fully accredited by the National Council of Associations of Teacher Education (NCATE) and the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools (SACS). Our graduates at the undergraduate and graduate programs are highly respected as knowledgeable and skilled in effective teaching.

On behalf of the faculty and staff, I welcome you to our home web page and hope that you will continue your inquiry about our programs.
