Joy Park
Administrative Assistant
Hi, my name is Joy Park, and I am the Administrative Secretary to the Child Development Center and the Developmental and Diagnostic Reading Clinic. In October of 2004 it was my desire to return to full time work and my love of children that brought me to the Child Development Center. I have worked on the UWG campus for many years, in both full and part time positions. The Child Development Center truly feels like "home" to me. My family has lived in Carrollton for over 17 years. I have 2 daughters. Meghan lives in LaGrange, GA and is busy settling into her new home. Hannah is a student here at UWG and will be graduating in December, 2006. My husband, Tom, and I have been married for 25 wonderful years and we still have a “baby” at home, Ritzi, our three year old black lab. I look forward to the start of each new school year and getting to know the Pre-K children and their families.

Ms. Diane
Teacher Assistant
Hi my name is Diane Shacklady, Let me tell you some things about myself. I was born in Liverpool England, that is were I met my husband Tony and gave birth to my three wonderful children; Danielle, Christopher and Connor. At present Danielle is married and doing her PhD in Hawahu. Christopher graduated from U.W.G in May 2007 in Chemistry and is currently working at the Centers for Disease Control (the other CDC!), and Connor is in 4th grade at Carrollton Middle school. In 1995, I decided to go back to university to get my bachelors degree in Psychology from John Moore’s University. After giving birth to my youngest son Connor and graduating in 1998, we moved to Ireland, County Wicklow. I joined the Association Child Minding Ireland and with a fellow educator opened a children’s learning center, which we named Little Rascals. My husband’s work brought us across the ocean to North Carolina, and after a year we moved to Georgia. I proceeded to help out and volunteer at Carrollton Elementary school. Once I had established my green card I became a Pre-K assistant at Carrollton Academy. One year later I was a lead teacher, I then changed centers and became a Pre-K assistant and substitute teacher at Color us Kids. At present I am perusing my academics at West Central Technical College in order to complete my associate degree in early childhood education. I have been teaching for over eleven years, my European background has exposed me to many different teaching aspects. I worked with children in remedial math and reading and phonological awareness classes. I am so excited to be here at the University of West Georgia, as this is a wonderful learning center for children. Pre- K is your child’s first step on the ladder to academic success, I feel honored to be assisting Mrs. Nena and the rest of the U.W.G Child Development Center team. My children are the greatest gift on earth, and I can assure you Joining Mrs. Nena's class has just given me twenty more wonderful gifts.
