Accreditations

The College of Education at the University of West Georgia is accredited by the National Council for Accreditation of Teacher Education (NCATE). This accreditation covers initial teacher preparation programs and advanced educator preparation programs. More information on the accreditation process can be found at the NCATE website. All education programs are approved by the Georgia Professional Standards Commission (PSC) for recommendation for Georgia professional educator certification. The school counseling and community counseling programs in the Department of Counseling and Educational Psychology hold national accreditation from the Council for Accreditation of Counseling and Related Educational Programs (CACREP). The Speech-Language Pathology program in the Department of Special Education and Speech-Language Pathology holds national accreditation from the Council on Academic Accreditation (CAA) in Audiology and Speech-Language Pathology of the American Speech, Language, and Hearing Association (ASHA).

Assessment

The purpose of the College of Education’s Unit Assessment System is to collect and analyze data related to candidate and graduate performance, program effectiveness, and unit operations. The Assessment Coordinator and the Assessment Advisory Committee (AAC) are responsible for overseeing unit assessment.

Conceptual Framework

The COE conceptual framework provides a shared vision for the teacher education unit's collaborative efforts to prepare candidates to work effectively in P-12 schools as teachers, administrators, and counselors. In addition, it serves as the foundation for decisions regarding programs, curriculum, teaching, candidate assessment, scholarship, service, and unit assessment.
