Andrea Owens

Counseling and Educational Psychology

Instructor

Greetings! I am new to the University of West Georgia, and I am very happy to be joining the faculty in the Counseling and Educational Psychology Department. Everyone has been very supportive of me thus far, and the more I learn about the programs offered here, the more impressed I am. I would definitely encourage others to take advantage of the wonderful opportunities offered here. In the words of Ferris Bueller, "If you have the means, I highly recommend it."

Degrees

I have a Master's Degree in Counseling from Truman State University in Missouri, with an emphasis in School Counseling and Student Affairs. I worked as a school counselor for 3 years in Missouri before moving to Auburn, AL to pursue a Ph.D. in Counselor Education. As it happens, I am still pursuing...I am currently ABD (All But Dissertation), but will be completing the dissertation process in the upcoming months, and then, Behold: Dr. Andy!

Professional Interests

Currently, my biggest professional interest is my dissertation! Once that's done, I'll be able to delve more into topics such as educational technology, site supervision of school counselors, and therapy animals.

Personal Interests

Family, friends, and pets top the list (I have 3 cats). I'm also a fan of music, books, and movies...I like to be entertained.
